So you want to write for games?
Do you feel that you’d have more passion at your job if you worked in the game industry? What are the differences between game writing jobs and writing jobs in the general technical industry? Are the rules different? The expectations? The culture? How do you get in?
Come and hear about the paths that three writers took to get into the game industry, and how the paths might’ve been shortened. Two of the writers are technical, and one is a creative/fiction writer. Discuss quotes from hiring managers who head-hunt for game companies in Washington and California. Lively debate will be encouraged.
By the end of the talk, you should either have a solid plan to move towards the game industry, or know that you definitely never want to go there.
Speaker
Janet Fisher has 3 years of testing experience and 13 years of technical writing experience. She’s written for a wide variety of products, technologies, and audiences. In 2005, she began making all of her career decisions based on the goal of getting into a game company. It took 6 years of false starts and settling for “almost” jobs, but now contract agents and head-hunters for game jobs make first contact.
