Finding Your Groove in the Brave New World

October 17th Chapter Meeting – Finding Your Groove in the Brave New World

Join STC-PSC on Tuesday, October 17 as Steyer’s CEO and Owner Kate Walton gives a presentation on the changes in the competencies that tech comm professionals need to be equipped with. This presentation will include the major impacts on the tech comm profession in the rapidly developing business world, hiring managers’ responses to these trends and pressures, and insights into new skillsets that are in demand.

On the one hand, it’s a great time to be a tech comm professional: throughout the ranks of senior management, there is a growing understanding that good technical content is integral to a good customer experience. The technology needed to create useful, dynamic content is cheaper and easier to use than ever before. And we have scads of data to guide us: in theory, we now have access to the insights and feedback needed to create literally The Best Content Ever.

So why are so many tech comm professionals feeling the opposite of exhilarated? Why is there a streak of deep-seated unease in our profession? Because it’s also a profoundly confusing time: many companies are re-thinking how best to produce and manage their content, new skillsets are in demand, and pay rates have shifted considerably. Many tech comm professionals naturally feel overwhelmed trying to find their footing on such shifting sands, and it can help considerably to have a guided tour, complete with tips on how to survive and thrive in this brave new world.

In this session, you will learn:

  • What factors (technological, economic, social, political, etc.) are most impacting the tech comm world
  • How hiring managers are responding to these trends and pressures
  • What this means for tech comm talent
  • How cutting-edge tech comm professionals are equipping and positioning themselves for success
