We’ve organized a very special, intimate event for 20 of you who are the first to sign up for this event. This is not a chapter meeting but a special Saturday afternoon where you’ll first hear a talk on the current and future state of technical writing and augmented reality by Stacey Stevens, and then on to the play!
What We’re Doing
We’re meeting at Virtual Sports in Tukwila, WA, where we will each spend ½ hour in a Virtual Reality (VR) experience using the HTC Vive headset! You will get to choose the adventure that you can enter in virtual reality and spend your time exploring this awesome, exciting experience. With more than 30 adventures to choose from, there will be something for everyone, regardless of experience or skill level. If you google in advance or visit the Virtual Sports website, you might be able to have an idea of what kind of adventure to select.
While you’re waiting, if you aren’t in the first group of 10 to play with VR, or, after you experience virtual reality, you’ll be playing Nerf Rival Assault, where you’ll battle with Nerf foam using Nerf guns in a huge dodgeball field.
Before registering, please check out the list of games and research them. Figure out what game you want to play so that on the day of the event you’re ready to jump into the game and spend every available minute in your VR adventure.
- 1-2 pm – Presentation and networking
- 2-3 pm – VR and Nerf Rival Assault (1/2 hour sessions in each room)
We hope you’ll join us for a fun, awesome, and educating experience.

About the Presenter
Stacey Stevens is a career technical writer who first learned about augmented reality in 2015 at an STC Summit. She walked in not knowing a thing and walked out convinced this will change what technical writers do and how they do it. Since then, she has served on the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) Augmented Reality in Information Products (ARIP) technical committee and is co-leading an effort at Boeing to understand the technology, particularly as it relates to technical communication. As part of her committee work, she is currently working with XML Press on a book of Augmented Reality definitions. When published, this book will be part of the Content Wrangler’s “Language Of” series. In her spare time, Stacey enjoys singing, water aerobics, reading, and watching movies.
