How to Become a Judge for the Competition?

We are currently seeking judges for the 2011 STC Puget Sound competition. As a judge, you will gain knowledge and insight to a variety of projects in current field of technical communication. As a judge, you will also work in a team and get to know other technical communication professionals in the Seattle area.

Whether you have judged in past years, or are considering judging for the first time, we welcome you to apply. Judging will occur in a team setting so experienced judges can can guide new judges through the judging process. Your unique perspectives will help us to provide each applicant with well-rounded feedback on their entries.

What do judges do?

Judges will meet as a team between October 18 and November 11 to evaluate entries they receive. Over the course of the competition, judges can expect to spend 15-20 hours of work evaluating and providing feedback.. Duties of a judge  include:

1. Reviewing each entry assigned to them (up to four entries per judge). 

2. Providing constructive feedback on each entry 

3. Meeting with team members for consensus on awards. This may be done in-person, by e-mail, or phone. 

4. Returning printed entries in good condition to the appropriate location

5. Contributing to the writing of any Best of Show recommendations. 

6. Completing and returning judging forms by the due date.
